In the 50s and 60s, it was North Beach. In the 60s and 70s, it was the Haight-Ashbury. In the last two decades of last century, it was South of Market. But, "it" currently is the Valencia Street corridor - the most popular hangout in the city for youthful and creative energy. Start at 16th and Valencia Street (don't miss the great Ti Couz (3108-16th at Valencia Street) 415.252.7373 creperie just off the corner) and stroll the six blocks to 24th Street where the start of the Hispanic-oriented retail street begins. During those 8 blocks, you'll see every kind of restaurant and bar as well as some interesting retail establishments like Paxton Gate (824 Valencia Street; 415.824.1872), the ultimate hip furnishings shop, and Good Vibrations (603 Valencia Street; 415.522.5460), the well-known purveyor of womens' (and some mens') sex toys.
